Royals End Winless Streak With 3-2 Win Over Hawks

La Mesa, CA – The Hope International women's volleyball team (4-12, 3-5) ended a three game winless slide as they took down San Diego Christian on Saturday afternoon in La Mesa, CA.

The Royals got off to a slow start as the Hawks took an early 6-1 lead and never looked back as the Royals dropped set one 25-12 and fell behind 1-0. With ten consecutive set losses the Royals looked to rebound in the second set. They once again fell behind but this time they fought hard and crawled out to a 7-5 lead. The Hawks managed to get back within 14-13 but the Royals came up big with a 5-0 run led by two kills from Carissa Wiles to take a commanding 19-13 lead that they didn't relinquish as they took set two 25-18 and tied the game 1-1. The Royals continued their momentum into the next set as they opened on a 6-0 run and went on to establish an 14-4 lead thanks to two kills from Madison Anderson. The Hawks though answered with a 6-0 run to pull back within 14-10 but the Royals put any thought of a comeback to bed as they went on a 10-0 run led by three kills from Anderson as they took set three 25-10 and took a 2-1 lead. The Hawks battled back as they took set four 25-21 and tied the game 2-2 forcing a pivotal fifth set. The Hawks continued their momentum from the previous set as they built an early 6–2 lead. The Royals responded with a 4-0 run led by two kills from Sofia Ramdhani to tie the game 6-6. From there it was back and forth as the teams exchanged leads with the Hawks taking a late 14-13 advantage. Facing defeat the Royals stepped up as Wiles came up with a big kill to tie it 14-14. Then the Royals forced the Hawks into back to back attack errors as they won the set 16-14 and the game 3-2.

The Royals continue GSAC play as they head to Santa Clarita, CA to take on the Master's University on Tuesday, October 4 at 7:00 PM.
