Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Royals End Two Game Slide With 3-1 Win Over Oaks

Fullerton, CA – The Hope International University women's volleyball team (5-14, 4-7) ended a two game losing streak as they defeated Menlo College on Saturday afternoon with a score of 3-1 at the Darling Pavilion in Fullerton, CA

The game started off slow for the Royals as the Oaks took the advantage in the first set with a score of 25-15. However, the Royals were not easily intimidated and came into the second set swinging. The Royals and Oaks were head to head for a majority of this second outing. The Royals quickly knocked Menlo off balance with six straight points in a row served by Stacey Dawes. Helping her was Jade Phillips with two blocks and one kill. Later with the score tied up at 17 the Royals took the lead again earning 4 points in a row. The Royals kept that same rhythm to overcome the Oaks in the second set with a score of 25-21. In the third set of the match the Royals and Oaks continued to push back and forth with one another to keep the audience on the edge of their seats. Hope at the 17 point mark found their stride and pushed ahead with another six points. The set ended with the Royals on top, 25-23, an overall team win. Finally in the fourth set with the Royals ahead 2-1 they finished the Oaks off with a winning score of 25-22. Needless to say, the Oaks didn't go down without a fight but were no match for the Royals' spirit and hunger that would earn them the win in the end. Cassidy Koffroth (19) led both teams tonight with 19 kills, Jade Philips (6.0) led both teams with six blocks, and Stacey Dawes (21) led her team with 21 assists on the night. Both teams gave a tremendous effort, but the Royals performed and showed a fair amount of potential which they hope carries into their upcoming game.

The Royals continue GSAC play as they head to Arizona to take on OUAZ on Friday, October 14 at 6:00 PM in Surprise, AZ.
