Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Robert Nilsen

Royals Race Past Firebirds 3-1

Fullerton, CA - The Hope International Women's soccer team (4-1) extended their win streak to three games as they beat the University of Saint Katherine Firebirds on Wednesday evening at the OC Great Park in Irvine, CA.

The Royals were on the attack from the whistle as they generated multiple scoring opportunities but were unable to convert in the first half as the game went into halftime tied 0-0. Out of the break it was the Firebirds who looked the better team as they created multiple opportunities including banging a shot off the post about five minutes into the half. That seemed to reinvigorate the Royals though as they responded with multiple opportunities until they finally broke the deadlock several minutes later as Monique Cervantes played a great ball to Sarah Ralston who switched the ball on her feet and powered a low shot into the bottom corner to put the Royals ahead 1-0 in the 56th minute. The game then got a little chippy as fouls started racking up and several yellow cards were produced. The Royals would then add to their lead as Cervantes set up Kassidy Valtierra to make it 2-0 in the 75th minute. With the Firebirds searching for an answer the Royals would add another goal on the counterr attack as Candelario played Olga Luna in a goal as she finished to make it 3-0 in the 85th minute. The Firebirds did finally answer in the 87th minute on a fast break of their own to make it 3-1 but it was to little to late as the Royals defense held strong to secure the victory.

The Royals continue their season on the road as they travel to take on Cal State San Marcos at 5:00 PM in San Marcos, CA.
