Royals Drop Final Two Games At USK Tourney

San Marcos, CA – The Hope International women's volleyball team continued their season today at the second day of the USK Labor Day tourney as they dropped their final two games on Saturday in San Marcos, CA.

Game 1:
The Royals looked to continue their momentum from their win the previous afternoon but it was the Knights who came out of the gate building an 18-14 lead in set one. The Royals tried to fight back but the Knights led from start to finish as they took set one 26-19 and went up 1-0. The second set swung back in the Royals favor as they established a 13-12 lead halfway through the set. Cassidy Koffroth then stepped up big leading the way with three kills as they Royals raced out to a 21-14 lead as they went on to take the second set 25-21. The Knights would regain control in the third set as they raced out to an early 6-1 lead, but the Royals battled back to tie it 14-14. The Knights though responded by closing out the set on an 11-2 run to take set three 25-16 and a 2-1 lead in the game. The Royals didn't give up but the Knights proved to be to much as they led most of the way with the Royals falling 25-13 and 3-1. Jade Phillips led the Royals with 12 kills while Jacqueline Foster had 20 assists.

Game 2:
In the final game of the tournament the Royals took on the hosts the University of Saint Katherine. The Firebirds started the game off hot as they raced out to a 16-6 lead in the first set. The Royals scrapped back into the game to get within five but the Firebirds were to much for them as the Royals dropped set one 25-19 and trailed 1-0. The second set appeared to have a similar theme as the Firebirds took an early 13-3 lead. This time though the Royals had a lot more left in their tank as they went on an a 9-0 run led by two kills from Carissa Wiles to pull within one at 13-12. From there the Royals took over as they built a 21-17 lead before going on to take set two 25-21 and tie the game 1-1. It was all Firebirds in the third set as they built a 13-3 lead and this time they had no problem going on to take the set 25-14 and go up 2-1 in the game. The fourth set was a back forth affair with the Royals having multiple attempts to win the set, but in the end the Firebirds won a marathon fourth set 32-30 and took the game 3-1. Jade Phillips and Koffroth led the way with 10 kills each.

The Royals will return to action on Friday, September 9 at home as they open up GSAC conference play against Arizona Christian at 6:00 PM in the Darling Pavilion.
