Candelario's Brace Helps Royals Race Past Redhawks 5-0

Fullerton, CA - The Hope International women's soccer team (5-2) bounced back from their second loss of the season as they took down Benedictine Mesa 5-0 on Wednesday afternoon at the OC Great Park in Irvine.

The Royals blitzed the Redhawks out of the gate as they opened the scoring in the 10th minute as Monique Cervantes found the back of the net off a deflection to make it 1-0. Then Ryley Candelario added to the lead as she laced a beautiful shot from the top of the box into the top of the net to make it 2-0 in the 14th minute. Then just a few moments later she scored her second of the game in the 15th minute to make it 3-0. The Royals weren't done there as right after the water break Olga Luna added to the Royals advantage in the 21st minute to make it 4-0. Later in the half the Royals would strike again as Lauren Lizarraga played a great ball across the goal that Natalie Padilla smashed in for her first goal of the season in the 32nd minute to make it 5-0 which was where the score stood at halftime. Haley Slouka recorded 4 saves in the net. The second half was a lot more relaxed as the Royals were comfortable with their lead and the Redhawks just couldn't mount much offense. Keyla Fragoso also came into the game for the last 30 minutes in goal as she recorded 3 saves in the 5-0 shutout victory.

The Royals continue their season at home as they take on the University of Antelope Valley on Saturday, September 10 at 7:00 PM at the OC Great Park Field 18 in Irvine.
