Royals Tie Lions in Six Goal Thriller

Fullerton, CA – The Hope International women's soccer team (7-2-2, 1-0-1 GSAC) tied the Vanguard University Lions 3-3 on Saturday evening at OC Great Park Field 18 in Irvine, CA.

The Royals stepped up the pressure from the whistle creating several early chances as they controlled the game in the first half. The breakthrough would come in the 31st minute as Christiane Sundstrom burst through on goal and finished past the goalie on a great solo run to give the Royals a 1-0 lead. The Royals had another chance before the half but couldn't convert as they went into halftime up 1-0.

The Royals continued to push forward to start the second and were rewarded as Olivia Tostado headed it to Monique Cervantes who finished to put the Royals up 2-0 in the 47th minute. The Lions didn't give up as they answered on the counter to make it 2-1 in the 52nd minute. They then took advantage of a gift penalty call to tie the game 2-2 in the 62nd minute. The Royals then retook the lead in the 76th minute as Sundstrom whipped in a great corner kick to Sarah Ralston who finished to make it 3-2. Unfortunately they couldn't hold it as the Lions scored the equalizer in the 86th minute as the game ended 3-3.

The Royals continue GSAC action on the road as they travel to Arizona to take on Arizona Christian on Thursday, October 12 at 8:00 PM.
