Royals Pick Up First NAIA Tournament Win With Dominant Shutout of Cougars

Marion, IN - The Hope International University women's soccer team (15-3-2) picked up their first ever NAIA win as they smashed the IU Kokomo Cougars 4-0 on Thursday evening in the NAIA Tournament first round at Indian Wesleyan University in Marion, IN.

The Royals completely dominated from the first whistle as it didn't take long for them to open the scoring. It was Ashyln Edwards who would do so just six minutes in as Christiane Sundstrom found her to make it 1-0. Then six minutes later Edwards doubled the Royals lead this time off a great pass from Monique Cervantes to make it 2-0 in the 12th minute. The Royals offense continued to push for more goals but were unable to get more. Meanwhile the defense completely shut down the Cougars allowing just one shot with goalie Haley Slouka not being tested as the Royals took a commanding 2-0 lead at halftime.

The Royals continued to dominate in the second half as Christiane Sundstrom blasted in her Royals single season record breaking 19th goal to make it 3-0 in the 74th minute. The Royals then scored another just four minutes later as Emma Jackson got on the board in the 78th minute to put the Royals up 4-0. The Royals defense continued to completely shutdown the Cougars as once again they only allowed one shot with none on target as they picked up their first NAIA Tournament win with a 4-0 shutout.

With the win the Royals advance to take on host and sixth seeded Indiana Wesleyan University on Saturday, November 18 at 11:00 AM PT/2:00 PM ET in Marion, IN.
