Royals Fall to Cumberlands 2-0 As Program Record Season Comes to An End

Foley, AL – The Hope International women's soccer team (17-4-2) fought hard but couldn't overcome the No. 3 University of the Cumberlands Patriots as they fell 2-0 on Thursday evening in the NAIA Quarterfinals at Foley Sports Tourism Championship Stadium in Foley, AL.

The Patriots came out controlling possession and it didn't take long for them to find the breakthrough as they scored on their first shot of the game to go up 1-0 in the 8th minute. The Royals tried to find an immediate answer but couldn't as the Patriots scored again in the 22nd minute to make it 2-0. This time the Royals regrouped and were able to create two chances by Ryley Candelario with shots in the 26th and 29th minutes but she was unable to find the back of the net as the Royals went into halftime trailing 2-0.

The Royals tried to get back into the game in the second half but it was the Patriots who controlled the possession and kept creating chances. Goalie Haley Slouka continued to limit the damage as she came up with several big saves. Meanwhile the Royals had a chance in the 63rd minute through Emma Jackson but her shot was saved. The Royals didn't give in as Christiane Sundstrom had a great chance in the 67th minute but her shot rang off the post as the Royals were unable to breach the Patriots defense as they fell 2-0.

With the loss the Royals program best season comes to an end. The Royals won a record 17 games and reached the NAIA final site for the first time picking up their first two NAIA wins in the process.
