Royals Drop Doubleheader to Westcliff

Irvine, CA – The Hope International softball team (35-12) dropped a doubleheader to the Westcliff Warriors as they lost the first game 4-3 before losing the second game 5-3 on Wednesday afternoon at the OC Great Park in Irvine, CA

Game 1:
Allie Puente got the start pitching 6 shutout innings allowing one hit while walking one and striking out 10. Grace Craig (5-3) took the loss in relief pitching 2/3 of an inning allowing four runs, two earned on four hits while striking out one. Hannah Macias led the Royals offense going 2-for-3 with an RBI.

The game was scoreless until the Royals jumped on top in the top of the fifth. With one out three straight singles led to a run as Makenna Stuart delivered an RBI on an infield single to make it 1-0. Then the fourth straight single occurred as Alena De La Torre dropped an RBI single down the left field line to make it 2-0. The Royals then added to their lead in the sixth as Macias ripped a two out RBI double to right center to make it 3-0.

Meanwhile Allie Puente was cruising in the circle as she put the Warriors down 1-2-3 in the sixth but the Royals bullpen was unable to hold the lead as the Warriors took advantage of a four out situation to score four runs as they won in a walkoff 4-3.

Game 2:
Makenna Stuart (0-1) started for the first time and received the loss pitching 5 innings allowing five runs on nine hits while walking two and striking out one. Emma McCraw led the Royals offense going 3-for-4 with an RBI.

The Warriors opened the scoring in the bottom of the first to take a 1-0 lead. The Royals fought back in the top of the third as Ariana Coronado delivered a clutch two out RBI single to tie the game 1-1. No sooner did that happen then the Warriors answered with three runs in the bottom of the third to take a 4-1 lead.

The Royals continued to battle as they pulled a run back in the top of the fifth on an RBI single by Hannah Macias to make it 4-2. Once again the Warriors would reestablish their three run lead before the Royals answered back. With two on and one out Emma McCraw laced an RBI single up the middle to make it 5-3 in the sixth.

The Royals had a chance at a comeback in the top of the seventh as they loaded the bases with two outs but were unable to come up with the go ahead hit as they fell 5-3.

The Royals wrap up non conference play as they once again travel to Irvine, CA to take on Westcliff in a single game on Friday, April 28 at 2:00 PM at the OC Great Park.
