Royals Stun Spirit With Four Second Half Goals in Sensational Comeback

Surprise, AZ – The Hope International men's soccer team (8-3-2, 5-2-2 GSAC) rallied from a two goal halftime deficit in the final twenty minutes to stun the Ottawa University Arizona Spirit 4-2 on Wednesday evening on the road in Surprise, AZ.

The Spirit came out on the attack and would strike first in the 10th minute to take a 1-0 lead. The Royals quickly looked for an answer but a shot by Andy Cabrera just missed the target three minutes later. The Royals would then have their best chance to equalize in the 20th minute but a penalty shot by Andy Cabrera was saved by the Spirit as the Royals continued to trail. The Royals kept pushing for the equalizer but it was the Spirit who would score again as Royals goalie Berlin Torres made a great save on the initial shot but the follow up by the Spirit went in as they took a 2-0 lead in the 25th minute. The Royals didn't give up as they pushed for a goal as Jorge Perez and Uriel Sanchez both had opportunities but neither were able to convert as the Royals trailed 2-0 at halftime. Torres played the first half in goal and recorded two saves.

The Royals came out fired up at halftime as they pushed forward for a goal. It would take until the 70th minute but the Royals would finally find the back of the net as Andy Cabrera intercepted a poor clearance by a Spirit defender and fired home for his fifth goal of the season to make it 2-1. The Royals then searched for the equalizer and found it five minutes later as Torres took advantage of the Spirit goalie coming out late to score his first career goal in his first field appearance to make it 2-2 in the 75th minute. Feeling the momentum the Royals would then take the lead in the 80th minute as Andy Cabrera played a great ball into the box for Emi Amaro who finished for his first career Royals goal to put them ahead 3-2. The Spirit looked for a response but the Royals would score again as Sebastian Ramirez forced an own goal in the 85th minute to make it 4-2. The Royals defense would then seal a sensational 4-2 comeback win. Milton Herrera played the second half in goal recording two saves.

The Royals continue GSAC play in Arizona as they travel to Glendale, AZ to take on Arizona Christian on Saturday, October 18 at 12:30 PM.
