Ariana Coronado and Asia Chacon Drive in Four Runs Each to Lead Royals in Sweep of Golden Eagles

Fullerton, CA – The No. 19 Hope International University softball team (15-2) ran their win streak to five games as they swept the La Sierra University Golden Eagles winning 9-2 and 10-2 on Friday afternoon at home at Bastanchury Park in Fullerton, CA

Game 1:
Allie Puente (8-2) picked up the win throwing a one hit shutout over 5 innings while walking one and striking out nine. Samantha Villanueva led the Royals offense going 2-for-3 with 3 RBIs.

Allie shutdown the Golden Eagles over the first two innings after working around a leadoff walk. The Royals offense then broke open the game in the bottom of the second. With two on and one out Ariana Coronado ripped a two run single up the middle to make it 2-0. Two batters later Asia Chacon followed with a sac fly to make it 3-0. Sarah Reiser then ripped an RBI single to right to increase the lead to 4-0. Villanueva then launched a two run double to center to make it 6-0.

The Golden Eagles looked for an answer but Allie continued to shut them down while the Royals added to their lead in the bottom of the fourth as Villanueva delivered a two out RBI single up the middle to make it 7-0. Ashlee Kean then came into the game in relief and allowed two unearned runs in the sixth as the Golden Eagles finally got on the board to make it 7-2.

The Royals weren't done either as Katrina Rodriguez ripped an RBI double down the left field line to make it 8-2. Savannah Taylor then delivered an RBI groundout to increase the Royals lead to 9-2. Kean then pitched a flawless seventh putting the Golden Eagles down in order to seal a 9-2 win.

Game 2:
Grace Craig (6-0) picked up the win pitching four innings while allowing two runs on five hits. Asia Chacon led the Royals offense going 2-for-2 with 3 RBIs.

This time the Golden Eagles got to the Royals early with a two run home run to take a 2-0 lead. That lead didn't last long though as the Royals got to work in the bottom half. With runners on second and third and nobody out Emma McCraw lined a single up the middle to plate two runs and tie the game 2-2. Three batters later Jazzy Smith drove a single to right center to give the Royals a 3-2 lead. Later with two out Ariana Coronado delivered a two run single to left center to make it 5-2. Asia Chacon then broke open the game by crushing a three run home run to left center to increase the Royals lead to 8-2.

The Golden Eagles looked to strike again in the top of the second but Arely Coronado came up with a huge leaping catch over the fence to rob a home run and keep the game 8-2. Craig settled in from there as she retired the side in order. The Royals then added to their lead in the bottom of the third. With two on and one out Reisler knocked an RBI single to center to make it 9-2. Hailey Martinez then delivered an RBI groundout to give the Royals a commanding 10-2 lead.
