La Mirada, CA – The No. 19 Hope International women's soccer team (2-0) delivered a commanding 3-0 victory over The Masters University Mustangs as they continued conference play this Saturday in La Mirada, CA.
The Royals brought the intensity with four shot attempts in the early minutes of the game. On the Royals fifth shot attempt, in the 15
th minute,
Christiane Sundstrom scored her 8
th goal of the season, first goal of the game, giving them a 1-0 lead. The Royals maintained their pace, creating multiple scoring opportunities but were unable to widen the gap just yet. The Mustangs responded with aggressive offensive pressure but the Royals goalie
Haley Slouka was impenetrable making four consecutive saves between the 35
th and 36
th minutes. The Royals defense kept the Mustangs at bay, and they closed the first half with a 1-0 lead.
In the second half, the Mustangs brought the intensity but it was the Royals who continued to press forward. The Royals lead was extended in the 77
th minute on an own goal bringing the score to 2-0. But the Royals were not done yet! Just three minutes later, in the 79
th minute, Royals freshman
Kira Christenson scored her first career goal assisted by
Annie Holst to seal the game at 3-0.
Haley Slouka, who played the full 90 minutes was a defensive force recording 10 saves. The Royals secured a 3-0 victory against the Mustangs dominating on both ends of the field.
