Women’s Soccer Shuts Down Firestorm

IRVINE, Calif. – Hope International women's soccer dominated for the full 90 minutes in a 2-0 victory over Arizona Christian in Saturday's regular season GSAC finale at the OC Great Park.

The Royals held a 22-2 shots advantage and created multiple scoring opportunities by virtue of their 13-1 edge in corner kicks.

Madalynn Ayala and Jordan Galvin netted goals for the Royals, which earned the No. 4 seed in next week's GSAC Tournament.

Christenson threaded a brilliant through ball to Ayala, who streaked up the middle of the pitch before slipping a shot to the lower right corner past Firestorm goalkeeper Brenna Sonsini for the 1-0 lead. Ayala's goal at the 35:53 mark was the first of her career.

HIU outshot ACU 13-0 in the first half, forcing Sonsini into five saves.

The Royals continued to pressure in the second half and capitalized in the 54th minute as Galvin's corner kick bent in and found the back of the net. Galvin posted her second goal of the season.

Clearly in control of the possession battle, HIU substituted liberally throughout and 24 players got into the match.

Ayala, Brandi Valdez and Christenson each fired off three shots for the Royals.

Victoria Ruiz made one save in procuring her fifth solo shutout of the season. She lowered her GAA to 1.23.

The Royals take on No. 1 seed Embry-Riddle in Prescott, Ariz. on Saturday, November 8. Kickoff is at 1:00 p.m. (PT).
