Fullerton, CA - The No. 13 Hope International men's volleyball team (6-3) lost a five set thriller 3-2 to the No. 11 Westcliff University Warriors on Wednesday evening at home in the Darling Pavilion.

The Warriors started off the first set with the early lead but the Royals came back to take a 6-5 lead off a kill by Julian Zavala. The Royals then seized control with a 5-0 run led by three aces and a kill from Cole Oliver to take an 11-6 lead. The Royals then extended their lead to 21-14 with another kill by Zavala. The Warriors kept fighting but the Royals held strong closing out the set with a Prowse kill to win 25-20 and take a 1-0 lead. The Royals looked to continue their momentum into the second set but the Warriors had other ideas as they raced out to a 13-6 lead. This time the Royals did regroup after the timeout as they went on a 6-0 run with two kills from Damon Potter and one from Zavala to make it 22-17. That's as close as they got though as they fell 25-18 with the game being tied 1-1.

The Royals would rally to get within 13-12 with Kyler Tufuga setting up Oliver and Zavala for kills. The Warriors regrouped after a timeout to take an 18-13 lead as the Royals looked for an answer. Oliver would add another kill to make it 20-15 but the Royals were unable to mount a rally as they fell 25-16 and trailed 2-1. The Royals looked to stay alive in the fourth set and they did so leading from start to finish as they took an early 7-3 lead with another kill from Prowse. The Warriors tried to respond as they made it 8-6 but the Royals got back to back kills from Oliver and Zavala to take a 12-7 lead. The Warriors tried to keep up but it was all Royals as they went on a 6-1 run with two aces from Prowse and kills from Prowse, Potter and Sean Seaman to take a commanding 18-9 lead.
