Fullerton, CA - The Hope International women's tennis team (3-10, 1-0 GSAC) opened GSAC play with a 4-3 win over the College of Idaho Yotes on Tuesday afternoon at home at the Fullerton Tennis Center in Fullerton, CA.
The Royals started off strong as they won the doubles points with the pair of
Eva Echeverri and
Merrit Dubourdieu winning 7-5 and
Catrina Hibbard and
Melody Kilonzo winning 6-3.
Nicole Escamillo and
Ellie Black fell 6-1 but it didn't matter as the Royals captured the point winning two out of three to take a 1-0 lead. The Yotes would take the early lead in singles with Escamillo losing 6-3, 6-2 and Echeverri falling 6-4, 6-4. The Royals turned the match around as Black won 7-5, 6-1 and Kilonzo won 7-6, 6-2 to take a 3-2 lead. Dubourdieu would also come up short 6-2, 6-4 as the game was tied 3-3. Hibbard then came from behind after dropping the first set 4-6 to win 6-4, 6-4 and give the Royals a thrilling 4-3 win.
The Royals continue GSAC action at home as they host OUAZ on Friday, March 28 at 12:00 PM at the Fullerton Tennis Center in Fullerton, CA.
