IRVINE, Calif. – Hope International tangled with Eastern Oregon in men's soccer action on Wednesday at the OC Great Park Stadium, overcoming a 16-6 shot disadvantage in a 0-0 draw.
HIU moved to 1-1-2 on the season, while Eastern Oregon is now 2-0-2.
Vincent Lopez, Gio Marin and Diego Albanez each posted two shots for the Royals. Three of HIU's six shots came within the first 15 minutes of the game.
HIU was forced to play a man down for a majority of the game when Christopher Ferrufino received a red card in the 25th minute. The Royals managed just one more shot the remainder of the first half via a Marin effort in the 39th minute.
The Mountaineers held an 8-0 advantage in corner kicks but could not break through in the scoring column. Eastern Oregon's Marcus Bravo nearly scored in the 54th minute. He had a clear angle but his shot veered left after his initial attempt had been blocked.
There were 21 fouls in the contest – 13 by Eastern Oregon. Henry Lopez, Austin Tesch and Jesus Alvarez drew yellow cards for the Mountaineers. HIU's Cesar Naranjo earned a yellow card in the 74th minute.
HIU goalkeeper Berlin Torres notched the shutout after collecting five saves.
The Royals begin a four-match roadtrip on Friday at Occidental College, with kickoff slated for 7:30 p.m.
