Baseball Drops Game at Cal State San Bernardino

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – Cal State San Bernardino scored seven runs over the first three innings and the early offensive surge held up in a 9-2 victory over visiting Hope International in a nonconference baseball game on Tuesday at Fiscalini Field.

The Royals had their six-game winning streak halted as they fell to 19-9 overall on the season. The Coyotes improved to 9-12.

HIU dented the scoreboard with two runs in the first as Colby Moran had an RBI double and Eddie Cotto delivered a run-scoring base hit.

The Coyotes responded with three runs in the first and three more in the second. CSUSB added a run in the third to increase its lead to 7-2. Two of the runs came home on wild pitches.

CSUSB added two runs in the fifth on a run-scoring groundout and RBI single, both runs unearned as a result of a throwing error by the HIU pitcher.

After HIU scored two runs off CSUSB starter Jojo Duran, six different Coyote relievers combined to limit the Royal bats to just two hits over the next eight innings.

Luke Wallin took the loss for the Royals after allowing five hits and four runs (three earned) in one inning of work. Cooper Bagby struck out three in 1.2 innings of relief, and the Royals also got a scoreless inning from Logan Long and two clean frames from James Williams. Williams fanned three during his stint.

Cotto led the offense going 2-for-4 with an RBI.

The Royals continue GSAC play at OUAZ, beginning a Friday doubleheader at 4:00 p.m.
