Fullerton, CA - The Hope International University competitive dance teams competed at the NDA National Championship in Daytona Beach, FL from April 5-9. The NCA & NDA College Nationals are one of the biggest, most infamous, college dance competitions in all of college dance. There were over 100 college dance teams, and 430 cheer and dance teams in total. The Royals brought home the NDA National Championship in the Hip Hop category as they placed first out of six teams. They also placed 4th out of 11 in the team performance category.
In the Hip Hop competition, the Royals advanced out of the preliminary round finishing first with an event score of 86.0286. Also advancing to the final were OUAZ and Roosevelt University. In the final, the Royals took home the Championship with a final score of 86.0286 beating out OUAZ who finished with a final score of 85.6857 and Roosevelt who finished with a score of 83.9429.
Jillian Garcia was a standout performer at the competition as Head Coach
Christina Remijio stated, "She is a senior and I remember vividly her freshman year she said, "I want to leave HIU with a championship and a ring." And she did exactly that! She has been an incredible leader and captain. I was hired the same year she started out at Hope as a freshman, so I truly felt like I grew with her these last four years. I'm proud to have led her to a National Championship, and I couldn't have done it without her hard work and leadership within the team."
The Royals also competed in the team event where they finished fourth with a team score of 84.15. Oklahoma City won the team event with a score of 90.5, Aquinas College finished second with an 88.1 and Texas Wesleyan finished third with a score of 85.15.
