Jackson Leads With A Brace As Royals Rout Battlin' Bears In 5-0 Shutout

Costa Mesa, CA - The Hope International University women's soccer team (2-1) continued their season with a dominant 5-0 shutout win over the Rocky Mountain Battlin' Bears on Saturday afternoon in a home game played at Vanguard Soccer Complex in Costa Mesa, CA.

The Royals came out of the gates quickly as they generated a few scoring chances before breaking the deadlock in the 13th minute as Olga Luna struck for her first goal of the season to make it 1-0. The Battlin' Bears had a great chance to tie it right before halftime but goalie Haley Slouka came up with a big stop to deny the tying goal. Then moments later the Royals got a second as Christiane Sundstrom connected on a bouncing ball outside the box to put the Royals up 2-0 at halftime.

The Royals came out of the break and continued to pile on the pressure and it paid off as Sarah Ralston found Emma Jackson who calmly finished in front of goal to increase the Royals lead to 3-0. The Battlin' Bears had another great chance to break through but the crossbar denied them. The Royals then put in a fourth as Ryley Candelerio found Jackson again to make it 4-0 in the 62nd minute. The Royals weren't done as they scored a fifth in the 69th minute as Sundstrom played a great ball to Lauren Lizarraga who knocked her first goal of the season in as the Royals went on to win 5-0. Slouka had three saves in goal while Zadee Solis came in and picked up a save as well.

The Royals return to action on Wednesday, August 30th at 7:00 PM as they host Southern Oregon at OC Great Park Field 18 in Irvine, CA.
