Fullerton, CA - The Hope International University women's soccer team (3-1) continued their season with a second straight shutout as they took down the Southern Oregon University Raiders 2-0 on Wednesday evening at OC Great Park Field 18 in Irvine, CA.

The Royals dominated the game early on as they controlled possession and generated many scoring opportunities with their first solid chance coming in the 17th minute when Ryley Candelario blasted a shot off the woodwork. The Royals continued to create chances as they outshot the Raiders 21-3 with Christiane Sundstrom generating multiple herself but the Royals were unable to break through. Meanwhile the best chance for the Raiders came right before halftime but an open header sailed just wide of the Royals goal as the score was 0-0 at halftime.

The Royals continued to pile on the pressure in the second half but it was the Raiders who had the first best chance of the half. A defensive mistake would put the Raiders in on goal but Haley Slouka came up with the stop to keep the game scoreless. The Royals would then break through in the 52nd minute as Lauren Lizarraga made a nice move to beat her defender and cross the ball into Sundstrom who finished over the head of the Raiders goalie to put the Royals up 1-0. The Royals would then add another in the 72nd minute as they won the ball back in their attacking end and then Sarah Ralston headed into the path of Sundstrom who put home her second of the game to make it 2-0. The Raiders got several counterr attacking opportunities in the second half but the Royals defense stood strong as the Royals prevailed 2-0. Slouka led the Royals with two saves.

The Royals return to action on Friday, September 1st at 7:00 PM as they host Midland at OC Great Park Field 18 in Irvine, CA.
