Puente Perfect As Royals Shutout Valor 3-0 to Open NAIA Tournament

San Antonio, TX - The No. 23 Hope International University softball team (36-15) opened up the NAIA Tournament with a 3-0 shutout of the Evangel University Valor on Monday afternoon at St. Mary's University Softball Stadium in San Antonio, TX.

Allie Puente (26-12) was untouchable throwing a perfect game over 7 innings while striking out 11. Sarah Reisler led the Royals offense going 2-for-3.

Puente struck out five of the first six Valor hitters she faced while the Royals offense looked to get on the board first. The Royals would finally open the scoring in the bottom of the third as they got two walks before Natalie Corrales singled and then forced an error allowing all runners to score and give the Royals a 3-0 lead.

That's all the run support Puente would need as she shut down the Valor throwing her second perfect game of the year. The Royals offense would threaten again but they didn't score any more runs as they won 3-0 to advance to the winner's bracket for the second year in a row.

The Royals now advance to the winners bracket and will take on the winner of Our Lady of the Lake and Cottey on Tuesday, May 14 at 12:30 PM PT/2:30 PM CT at St. Mary's University Softball Stadium in San Antonio, TX.
