San Diego, CA - The Hope International University Men's and Women's Track and Field team competed with strong performances at the San Diego Mesa Distance Classic on Saturday March 8^th 2025. 

Daniel Perez led the team with a win in the 800 meter dash all alone at the finish with a strong time of 2:01.00.  Not too far behind were strong results from Diego Pineda, a senior with 2:03.00 and Andy Avalos, a freshman with a respective time of 2:05.00.  With little time to recover Perez (4:55.89) and Pineda (4:48.77) jumped into the 1500 meter dash and ended a super day of competition. 

The Girls also put in strong performances.  Freshmen Lupe Mata scored top three in the 800 with a great time of 2:36. Her teammate Jazmin Zambrano took on the challenging 1500 meter event and finished super strong with a 6:08.19 after being out with an injury. 

The HIU track team will be next traveling to San Franisco State for the West Coast Invite on Saturday, March 15. The men will be participating in the Distance Medley Relay which is a relay of 1600 meters-1200 meters-800 meters-400 meters.
