Galvan No Hitter Leads Royals in Shutout Sweep of Eagles

Glendale, AZ - The No. 12 Hope International University softball team (13-5) wrapped up their first Arizona road trip with a doubleheader sweep of the Avila University Eagles winning in a pair of shutouts 14-0 and 8-0 on Sunday in Glendale, AZ.

Game 1:
Kaitlyn Maaske (7-2) earned her seventh win pitching a complete game five innings allowing three hits while walking one and striking out two. Vivian Little led the Royals offense going 2-for-2 with 4 RBIs.

The Royals struck first in the top of the first as Sarah Reisler ripped an RBI triple to right to make it 1-0. Emma McCraw then followed with an RBI single to make it 2-0. Maaske then shutdown the Eagles while the Royals offense struck for two more runs in the top of the second as Little launched her first career Royals home run, a two run bomb to left to give the Royals a 4-0 lead.

The Royals offense wasn't done as they scored a season high 11 runs in the top of the fourth. Little got things started by ripping a one out two run double to make it 6-0. After a walk McCraw delivered an RBI single to make it 7-0. The Royals then batted around the Eagles pitcher as Asia Chacon came through with an RBI single followed by a sac fly from Natalie Corrales to make it 9-0. The Royals kept it going as Gabriella Holmes, Amanda Esquivel and Samantha Villanueva delivered RBI hits to give the Royals a commanding 12-0 lead. Later with two outs Reisler ripped her second triple of the game to drive in two more runs as the Royals went on to win 14-0.

Game 2:
Alexis Galvan (3-3) picked up the win throwing her first no hitter of the season pitching 6 innings while walking four and striking out five. Breanna Lucero led the Royals offense going 1-for-3 with 3 RBIs.

The game was scoreless until the bottom of the third when the Royals broke the game wide open. After a leadoff walk Reisler ripper her third triple of the day to give the Royals a 1-0 lead. McCraw then followed with an RBI single to center to make it 2-0. The Royals then loaded the bases with one out for Lucero who unloaded a bases clearing triple to right field to increase the lead to 5-0. Esquivel then followed with an RBI single to center as the Royals took a 6-0 advantage.

That's all the run support Galvan would need as she put down 11 Eagles in a row to finish off her outing while the Royals walked off to a run shortened game in the bottom of the sixth. With one on and two outs Chacon ripped an RBI double to left to make it 7-0 before Holmes finished off the game with an RBI single to center as the Royals won 8-0.

The Royals continue action on the road as they travel to Costa Mesa, CA to take on Vanguard on Tuesday March 11 with a doubleheader beginning at noon.
