DALLAS, Texas – The Hope International STUNT team traveled to Texas to play five games and came home 3-2 last weekend.
First up was a trip to Texas Women's in Denton to take on the Pioneers. This was the first time playing TWU, but not the first time against their new head Coach Leslie Allen, formerly at Vanguard. The Pioneers showed grit and determination, but the Royals still maintained dominance for the entire game, winning 24-12. Power players were Sophia Rosendale, Andra Brenneman, Giselle Baeza and Addy Drumond.Â
The Royals next traveled to Dallas to join in on the Annual DBU Classic Tournament. In game one the Royals faced for the first time Texas A&M-Kingsville. The Royals dominated the Javelinas throughout with a final score of 24-1. Power players were Rosendale, Baeza, Meela Ly and Drumond.
On day two the Royals faced Kentucky in a close matchup. The Royals and the Wildcats were tied 10-10 going into halftime, but the contest ended with HIU's first loss of the season, 29-22. This marks the fourth matchup against the Wildcats with the all-time record evened at 2-2. Power players were Rosendale, Mackenzie Flowers, Ivy Martinez, Claire Zenisek, Baeza, Drumond and Sophia Gonzalez.Â
Day three started with the first-ever matchup with Missouri State. Again, the Royals maintained control of the entire game, prevailing 27-3 against the Bears. Power players were Rosendale, Drumond, Ly and Brenneman.Â
The final matchup of the tournament was again a first-time opponent in Oklahoma Baptist. In another close game, the Royals were defeated by the Bison by a score of 26-21. Highlight of the game was scoring on PS8 both times it was played, as well as playing all levels in all categories unmodified. Power players were Martinez, Rosendale, Flowers and Zenisek.Â
The Royals are now 12-2 on the season. They face Arizona State in a neutral site match in Riverside on Thursday, March 12 before heading up to Oregon for the Pacific Northwest Classic on March 13-14.
