Fullerton, CA – The Hope International University softball team (35-10, 18-6 GSAC) ended the GSAC regular season with a bang as they swept the Vanguard University Lions winning 3-2 and 9-0 in five innings on Senior Day at Bastanchury Park in Fullerton, CA on Tuesday afternoon.

The Royals got into trouble early in the first as the Lions scored two runs to take a 2-0 lead. Candelas limited the damage as she got the final batter to fly out to end the threat. After that Candelas was lights out just giving up one more hit the rest of the game as she shutdown the Lions offense.

Meanwhile the Royals offense finally got to the Lions in the bottom of the fifth. After a one out walk Hannah Macias dropped a single down the left field line to put two runners on. De La Torre then stepped to the plate and ripped a two run double to left center to tie the game 2-2. Emma McCraw then followed with an RBI single just over the second baseman's glove to give the Royals a 3-2 lead.

Candelas then retired the next six batters in order over the final two innings to give the Royals 3-2 comeback win.

Game 2:

After a scoreless first the Royals offense got to work in the bottom of the second. With a runner on first and one out Leah Macias lined an RBI triple past the diving right fielder to make it 1-0. Hannah Macias then drove her in on a sac fly to increase the Royals lead to 2-0.

The Lions tried to fight back but Allie Puente put them down 1-2-3 in the top of the third while the Royals offense continued to click in the bottom half. Emily Puente led off the inning by crushing a 3-2 pitch over the center field wall for her team leading eighth home run of the year to put the Royals up 3-0. That was just the start as the Royals loaded the bases with one out. Hannah Macias then lined an RBI single up the middle to make it 4-0. Makenna Stuart then followed with a sac fly before De La Torre delivered an RBI single to center to increase the Royals lead to 6-0.

The Royals then added to their lead in the bottom of the fourth as they looked to end the game early.
